“Big Chopped” or transitioning, we will support you through your natural hair journey. While a great hair stylist is certainly an asset to any hair regimen, the foundation of healthy hair begins at home. We want to help you take a proactive approach to your hair care. The brands we offer are specifically designed for naturally kinky or curly hair, braids and locs. It is not our desire to send you home with a bag of products, we want to ensure you have a solid fundamental understanding of your hair. We will then transform you into enthusiasts on how to achieve and maintain a healthy crown!
Our owner has over 15 years in relationship building and customer service. Now a self-proclaimed healthy hair enthusiast, she enjoys coaching people through their hair journey. She returned natural over 12 years ago, however over half of those years did not include healthy hair practices. Her ultra conservative work environment, led her to believe that straight hair was more professional. After many years of regular blow outs and silk presses, her hair lacked moisture and was overly porous. Her curls were non-existent. Standing in the mirror after wash day, she grabbed the scissors and big chopped. The true natural hair journey was now underway. Spending countless hours in the aisles of beauty supply stores, she experienced the frustrations of not finding high quality hair care products and consultation readily available. She then dedicated time to research hair texture, specifically to kinky and curly hair. This gave her a better understanding of the interrelationship of healthy hair and a consistent hair regimen with quality products. In search of better options, she began to search online for hair products. What she found was a robust community of people creating all natural and organic products better suited for kinky-curly hair. Kinks and Curls was created to provide retail space for these small business owners and create a safe space where ALL hair is celebrated.
